Disputed Election Sends Malaysian Politician Back to Fight on the Streets
Not long ago he was flirting with the idea of semiretirement, maybe a teaching job at an American university. But now Anwar Ibrahim, the leader of the Malaysian opposition, former political prisoner and longtime bugbear of the establishment, says those plans are firmly on the shelf.
After a disputed election this month, in which he and his allies won a majority of votes but failed to capture control of Parliament, Mr. Anwar has returned to his roots as a political street fighter, drawing large crowds across the country to protest what he calls mass vote rigging....

Biarpun sebelum ini Suruhan Jaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) bermati-matian menyangkal dakwaan boleh mengundi lebih sekali ekoran penggunaan dakwat kekal, seorang pemuda di Kuantan semalam endedahkan bahawa beliau boleh mengundi dua kali.
Mohd Fadhli Khaharruddin, seperti dilapor Sinar Harian Online, mengaku keluar mengundi dua kali kerana mahu membuktikan sistem pilihan raya menggunakan dakwat kekal masih boleh dipertikaikan. “Saya mengundi kali pertama jam 10.30 pagi di saluran 4, peti undi Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Isap dan kemudian undi kali kedua pada jam 1.15 petang di lokasi yang sama,” katanya dipetik akhbar bahasa Melayu versi online itu....

The District and Land Office raided four areas in Pos Terisu for illegal land clearing but only managed to tear down the workers' quarters as all the machinery had been removed.
When enforcement officers arrived at around 11am yesterday, the cleared areas were empty of workers and machines.
Fresh excavator tracks could be seen along the side of the only road leading into the area inhabited by the orang asli, possibly made less than 24 hours earlier....

Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flew home a Malaysian mother and her 14-month-old daughter, who were earlier prevented from boarding a flight from another carrier, after getting the doctors to certify that the girl was not a health risk to passengers.
Izan Suhaila Mohd Ali, 36, and Mariam Sofea Mohd Reza were held back at Ho Chi Minh airport in Vietnam on Saturday night after their daughter was suspected of having symptoms of a contagious disease.
MAS chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said MAS staff had taken Mariam to a doctor as it was a standard procedure for all passengers with symptoms of contagious disease to get a fit-to-fly certification from a doctor....

Ketua Parlimen DAP, Lim Kit Siang kecewa dengan pengkhianatan UMNO terhadap bekas Menteri Besar Johor, Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman yang tidak dilantik sebagai Senator untuk menjadi Menteri dalam Kabinet baru Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Katanya, sedangkan sebelum ini, pemimpin UMNO memberi pujian tinggi menggunung kepada Abdul Ghani ketika kempen Pilihan Raya Umum ke-13 (PRU-13), 5 Mei lalu, apabila mencalonkan Abdul Ghani bertanding menentang beliau di Parlimen Gelang Patah.
Beliau berkata, pilihan raya umum sepatutnya tidak dianggap sebagai pertandingan kalah mati, dan mengakui Abdul Ghani memberi sumbangan tidak ternilai kepada pembangunan dan kemajuan Johor, kemampuannya sepatutnya diserap dalam kerajaan Persekutuan kerana masih boleh memberi khidmat dan sumbangan....
