Good news for the Opposition. Tian Chua, Harris Ibrahim and Tamrin Ghafar have been released by the Courts. A day after being arrested in separate raids by the police force, the courts have found no grounds to remand the three and the police have been questioned in their justification into the arrests.
Under the sedition act, only the Home Minister can order the arrests of the three hence we wait for a responce from the current home Minister Zahid Hamidi. Lets see how this plays out. Who will win in this cat and mouse game. |

Malaysian authorities have detained three anti-government figures, charged a student activist with sedition and seized hundreds of opposition newspapers, raising political tensions after recent national elections triggered claims of fraud.
Opposition activists have staged numerous peaceful demonstrations since the 5 May general election won by the National Front coalition with a weakened parliamentary majority. The activists insist the coalition, which has governed since 1957, retained power through bogus ballots and other irregularities, though the prime minister, Najib Razak, and electoral authorities deny manipulating the results....

Police arrested three opposition figures under the Sedition Act while the Home Ministry seized some 3,000 copies of Opposition party organs as the authorities moved to put a stop to alleged attempts to overthrow the Government through street protests.
PKR vice-president Tian Chua, PAS member Tamrin Ghafar and head of the pro-Opposition group Anything But Umno Haris Ibrahim were arrested at three different locations yesterday, said City police chief Deputy Commisioner Datuk Mohmad Salleh.

Tian Chua and Harris Ibrahim, who are Opposition members have been picked up by the Police today in connection with a rally to be held in Petaling Jaya tonight which has no Police clearance. Even though the Police have given clear instructions to the Opposition organisers, and repeatedly mentioned to them to follow the 10 day grace period before any rally, there seems to be no letting up in working together.
The Police are looking for more organisers of this illegal rally and will not let up till all are caught and brought before justice in a court of law. As tomorrow is a public holiday, all those caught today, tommorrow and Saturday will only be brought forward to a magistrate on Monday the earliest to be charged accordingly. |

PETALING JAYA: Only the MCA annual general meeting (AGM) can tell party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek to step down from his post, said former chief Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik.
“He was elected by delegates at an AGM and only an AGM can tell him to step down,” he told reporters after a press conference on the Ninth Malaysia Festival of the Mind here yesterday.
Asked about the 15 party elders who had asked Dr Chua to step down immediately following MCA's poor performance in the May 5 general election instead of waiting until party polls later this year, Dr Ling said he “did not even know who the 15 were.”....
