PETALING JAYA: PKR legal adviser Latheefa Koya has resigned from her position as Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillor, heading off her anticipated sacking.
In a letter sent Monday to Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, Latheefa said as her position had become "a matter of public knowledge and speculation" and so her role as councillor was "untenable".
Latheefa also sent copies of her letter to Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is PKR president and wife of Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and Datuk Bandar MBPJ.
Latheefah's resignation letter claims that the instability of her position was due to an internal email.
"I refer to an internal email regarding my concern on housing for the poor which I have sent to you and other top party leaders recently. The letter was unrelated to MBPJ matters," the letter stated.
"As a consequence, I understand that you and the exco are mulling over my sacking as a councillor in MBPJ.
"Therefore I am constrained to tender my resignation as MBPJ councillor with immediate effect..." - STARONLINE
