The 13th Parliament will most likely convene its first session by June, before the fasting month of Ramadan in July, said caretaker Minister in the Prime Minister's department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz. However, he said, it was still uncertain when the swearing-in ceremony for newly minted Members of Parliament (MPs) will take place as the Cabinet had yet to be formed.
“After the Cabinet is formed, only then will we have the swearing-in of MPs. The King's address will also normally be delivered after the ceremony,” he said yesterday. Nazri, who is Padang Rengas MP, said the Parliament has already missed a chance to have a meeting in March and hence, the new session should start soon. He said it was not compulsory for the House to meet three times a year....

If there was a moment after the nail-biting national election on Sunday when Malaysians could envision a respite from five years of political turmoil, it did not last long.
The police warned that Mr. Ibrahim and dozens of other people who spoke at a protest rally in a packed soccer stadium just outside the capital, Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday night could be charged with sedition.
Within hours of the election commission’s announcement early Monday that Prime Minister Najib Razak’s governing National Front coalition had won a majority in Parliament, Anwar Ibrahim, the opposition leader, declared that the voting was rigged, said he would contest the results and called for nationwide protests....

Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim is expected to be sworn in as the Selangor Mentri Besar tomorrow, putting an end to the week-long speculation within Pakatan Rakyat on who would hold the post.
A source close to the Mentri Besar's Office said Khalid would begin his second term as mentri besar after taking his oath before Sultan of Selangor Sultan Shara-fuddin Idris Shah.
According to the source Khalid is scheduled to have an audience with the Sultan today, during which the Tuanku is expected to advise him on several issues....

'Giant slayer' is the badge of honour given to a candidate whose victory ended the political career of a hitherto influential incumbent.
In recent times, many Pakatan Rakyat politicians have earned the badge, most notably Nurul Izzah Anwar for defeating Wanita UMNO chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil in Lembah Pantai in 2008 and Federal Territories minister Raja Nong Chik last weekend. Many other examples abound, and not limited to opposition candidates alone....
But there is one person who has quietly warded off bigger giants, three to be exact, all of whom had full control of Barisan Nasional's well-oiled machinery.
